About the Journal

What is the meaning of Paideutika?

Literally, it is the plural mention of the verbal adjective derived from the Greek paideuo (I instruct, educate, form), from which also comes paideia (education, culture, instruction, knowledge). Therefore, Paideutika gives a name to everything that is related to the formation/education of the human being.

Paideutika promotes a pedagogical culture within the context that derives from the connections between formation and culture, following the tradition of the phenomenological-existential and critical-deconstructive thoughts. It aims at developing critical reflectivity and scientific analysis about forms of cultural life that focus on: philosophical-educational approaches, the contexts of education and formation, pedagogical theories and educational practices.

Paideutika (ISSN 1974-6814 - E-ISSN 2785-566X) is a biannual scientific journal which has been classified as "Rank A" by ANVUR since 2012, for the Academic Fields 11/D1 (Pedagogy and History of Pedagogy) and 11/D2 (Didactics, Special Pedagogy, and Educational Research).

Authorized by the Court of Turin, No. 5850 of 03/26/2005.

The History of the Journal

The biannual journal Paideutika. Quaderni di formazione e cultura was founded by Antonio Erbetta in 2005 and since then it has been publishing two issues per year regularly. The aim of the journal is to promote a pedagogical culture within the context that derives from the connections between formation and culture, following the tradition of the phenomenological-existential and critical-deconstructive thoughts. Over the years, in addition to stimulating the national pedagogical debate, it has hosted contributions from internationally renowned intellectuals, artists, and academics, including Miguel Benasayag, Gábor Csordás, Arnold Davidson, Luce Irigaray, Fouad Laroui, and Fulvio Papi.

The journal has always been attentive to interdisciplinary dialogue, which has also been supported and promoted by the Scientific Committee. The journal has been published since 2009 by the publishing company Ibis, in both printed and digital formats. Since 2022, the journal is available in Open Access.

The cultural work of the study group linked to the Paideutika Association, which later expanded and gave form to the Editorial Board, is about discussing and developing thematic proposals whose aim is that of stimulating reflections and critical debates among scholars within the national and international pedagogical field. The cultural and scientific commitment is to identify emerging needs and issues from various educational and formative areas to explore their latent meanings, to highlight their ethical-political and existential implications, and to monitor their heuristic-disciplinary continuities and discontinuities, whether they are implicit or explicit.

Since 2011, following the death of its founder, the Direction has passed to Elena Madrussan who, maintaining the journal's traditional critical openness, has eased its consolidation within the scenery of Italian academic pedagogical journals. Since 2012, Paideutika has been recognized among the "Rank A" scientific journals by ANVUR.

Aims and Areas of the Journal

Paideutika. Quaderni di formazione e cultura is a biannual scientific journal. It welcomes studies and research in the theoretical-pedagogical, historical-pedagogical, and methodological-educational fields that are related to the Disciplinary Areas 11/D1 and 11/D2, as well as to adjacent Disciplinary Areas which address the nexus between formation and culture in its various expressions with scientific rigour.

Paideutika organizes its activities of scientific promotion and dissemination by publishing two issues per year, whose nature is predominantly monographic. Information on the issues is provided through Calls for Papers. The aim of monographic proposals is to stimulate reflection and critical debate among heuristic approaches and plural scientific positions from within the national and international pedagogical field. Inside the monographic issues there is also room for studies and research that are not related to the main thematic focus of the issue, albeit in a reduced number and in accordance with the journal's Policies.

While following a philosophical-educational and historical-pedagogical tradition, it welcomes unpublished contributions that demonstrate coherence and scientific depth and that are related to various areas of pedagogical-educational and humanistic-social interest.

The areas of relevance pertaining the proposals submitted to Paideutika include: philosophies of education; pedagogical theories; educational policies and practices; experiences and research in institutional-formal, non-formal, informal contexts; ethical-political analyses of practices, contexts, figures, or educational-formative theories; methods and tools in theoretical and empirical research, as well as any other submission whose aim is to question the structure and meanings of education and that is scientifically solid.

Paideutika makes use and guarantees the double-blind peer review process and it ensures data confidentiality and the transparency of the process.
